After more than 8 years commuting to practice law alongside my Dad, I thought this was the perfect time to begin my solo practice closer to home.
I’ve been practicing law for nearly 20 years. I began working in my Dad’s law office in high school over 30 years ago. During law school, I was law clerk for the late Judge Richard Dorrough in Montgomery, Alabama where I presided over pendente lite hearings as special master. My training instilled in me the importance of preparation and being confident in all aspects of a case.
I opened Richardson & French in 2004, where I acted as city attorney in Fort Deposit, Alabama. In 2007, I moved to Trussville, Alabama and I began my daily commute to my hometown in Fort Payne, Alabama to practice law alongside my Dad, Robert B. French, Jr. Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to connect with clients from all walks of life without thought to money, status, color or religion. I believe my clients deserve an attorney who is competent, compassionate and confident, without being arrogant.
Anyone who knows me knows how I dote over my two children, Tori and Trevor. Tori has been in competitive cheer for five years and I consider myself the number one cheer Dad. I’ve always been the first parent at the front of the stage each and every time she’s competed. Regardless of the outcome, I was there to support, celebrate or offer a shoulder to cry on when things didn’t go well on stage. I’m just as passionate about my son, Trevor’s, sports activities. Whether it’s baseball, basketball, or football. I’m always on the front row cheering him on and I pride myself on never missing a game or competition for either of my children.
Sometimes you just can’t get out of a cycle of fear and confusion. Afraid to ask questions because you’re worried about the answers you might hear?

Tommy puts a personal touch on his cases with his customers. Tommy got me through multiple suits and made sure that I came out on top. I am so thankful for the high level of service and urgency that Tommy gave me when I was in need. I would highly recommend his service to anyone.
Having utilized Mr. French’s services for almost two decades, I can honestly say that Mr. French has been very knowledgeable about every legal need I presented to him. Initially, I came to Mr French needing a will, advanced directives, and durable power of attorney for my mother after he was my mother’s attorney for her divorce. Later, I returned to Mr. French needing assistance on a property purchase and the documentation for that. The most I have utilized Mr. French was in my own divorce which was quite extensive and tedious due to the other attorney and the ex husband. Mr. French was not intimidated or concerned with the blatant drama observed by the other attorney during deposition. He was professional, protective of my interests, and insistent that I be treated in a respectful manner during the entire process. Mr. French is able to see through the chaos and get the information he needed to help me get the divorce finalized. Ultimately, I received what I initially requested in the divorce and I am thankful I came to Mr. French. I would highly recommend him.
I have had a couple attorneys throughout my life, but Tommy French has been by far the best. He will be the only attorney I will ever use from now on. I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a great attorney. He is very reasonably priced and is worth more than he charges.
Tommy French was amazing. I had been fighting my ex over a year and he stepped in had this resolved in just a few months! Excellent attorney and I highly recommend him.
Mr French handled my custody with my granddaughter then we went forward in the adoption… Mr French is the best and honest lawyer in Dekalb County I highly recommend him …
